EE GAME DAY

A Twitch-streamed treasure hunt for EE

background

EE wanted a campaign that positioned them as the go-to telco brand for gaming. Working with NEXUS & Havas play, i was creative director for a bespoke game, complete with narrative and riddles, that enabled a real-life treasure hunt, streamed live on twitch.

a mixed-reality launch video

it began with a mixed-reality video directed by Shynola. We worked with the team to place clues in the video that would later prove important to unlock real-life locations with the game.

The game

At the end of the video, viewers watched as 4 twitch streamers were transported into a digital version of leeds city centre.

Players were introduced to Nina Power cook, our NPC. Who guides them through the game. The first mission was to repair the mapotron, a treasure finding machine.

Once the mapotron was repaired, players then had to visit 4 levels to win batteries to power it. There were 4 EE BRANDED portals in total, each led to a bespoke world.

As they were transported to Each level, players had to battle enemies and collect coins. Each level had their own enemies with custom difficulties. From haunted skeletons, to monster plants.

AFTER BATTLING ENEMIES, THE TWITCH STREAMers HAD TO SOLVE A RIDDLE from the NPC IN ORDER TO GET A BATTERY TO POWER THE MAPOTRON.

WITH THE AUDIENCES’ HELP, THEY HAD TO DECIPHER THE RIDDLES By finding clues in the mixed reality video, and gaming knowledge.

Once they returned to the mapotron, more chests showed on the map. But To unlock the exact location, and get the password, viewers had to work together to complete a twitch puzzle. once complete, the details and videos of each location appeared.

the first person to get to the location and say the password to the guardian, won the box. All 13 boxes were collected around the country.

Each streamer had their own character, and we also created EE branded NPCs that appeared in each level.

We also created a suite of graphics for the 3 hour live stream.
