MTV GHOSteD: Love gone missing

3 couples. 3 ghostings. 3 shocking reasons why.

BACKGROUND

We teamed up with MTv to create a fictional, interactive SERiES of Ghosted on unrd. Players got to experience 3 different ghostings as they tried to work out why the ‘ghost’ left without any explanation.

the concept

Each story was told over 5 days. The first part was in the ‘Haunted’s phone, and the second part took place in the ‘Ghosts’ phone. This split perspective allowed players to see and speculate things from both people’s point of view.

story 1: joni & Greg

Joni met greg during a drunken night at work. he’s A perfect guy on paper, but this changes when her sister rhonda sends her a video of greg meeting another girl one night.

She questions him, but her doubts are answered when it’s revealed he was meeting a ring designer…he was planning to propose.

Over the course of the first part, joni gets even more suspicious about greg’s behaviour, but every time, he has a logical answer for his actions.

but when joni starts tracking greg’s movements, it all becomes too much and greg ghosts her. But were her suspicions right? is greg the perfect guy he makes out to be? Or if he hiding something?

story 2: ROMA & DOVE

Roma and Dove have been together for over a year – and their relationship is about to be put to the test when Dove leaves for LA on a business trip with her flirtatious work friend, Trent.

Worried she’s at risk of losing her girlfriend, Roma surprises her with a proposal. but Shortly after saying ‘yes!’ Dove ghosts her.

Did Roma move too quick? Was something going on with Trent? Or is there another reason behind the ghosting?

story 3: Max & Jax

Mae and Jax have been best friends since he moved to her town just over a year ago. But not everyone is a fan of his shady character and troubled past.

Against the advice of parents, friends and mae’s jock boyfriend, she tries to fix this ‘bad boy’. but as she becomes more involved, they become close and mae admits she has feelings for him. the next day jax takes off, never to be heard from again.

Did Mae get too involved? Did she cross the line by admitting her feelings? Or was something much, much darker at play?

production

Over 300 assets were shot remotely in canada during the covid pandemic. it was directed from the uk via video stream utilising iCloud to get any takes back to the uk within minutes after they were shot.

the confrontation call

just like the tv show, our fictional characters came together at the end of each story to reveal the real reason why they ghosted. but instead of a Studio, ours took place via a scripted video call with a twist…

social media

each character had a fictional instagram account that was built up over 6 months for authenticity. each account contained clues for players to find to bring them closer to the truth.

world building

each story contained fictional companies that existed outside of the game. we designed and build 6 different websites for players to visit that contained bonus clues.
